Watch the start line of any local sportive and you can spot the organised clubs instantly. Twenty riders in matching kit look like a team; twenty riders in twenty different jerseys look like strangers who happen to be standing together. Whether you're a road club chasing county championships, an MTB crew exploring local trails, or a social group that meets every Sunday, the jersey your club wears is the difference between the two.
A custom cycling jersey isn't just a uniform. It's a moving billboard for your club, a signal to other riders that you're organised and proud of what you've built, and - when done right - a genuinely performance-enhancing piece of kit.
This guide covers everything clubs need to know: fabric, fit, design, ordering, and the mistakes we see clubs make most often. By the end, you'll have everything you need to brief a supplier and get a jersey your members will actually want to wear.
Why a Custom Jersey Is Worth It
Off-the-shelf cycling jerseys are fine for individual riders. But for clubs, they create a fragmented look that undermines the sense of identity you've worked hard to build.
Custom jerseys solve several problems at once:
- Visibility and safety - a consistent colour scheme makes your group easier to spot by drivers, particularly in low-light conditions.
- Team identity - new members feel immediately part of something when they pull on the club kit.
- Sponsorship opportunities - custom kits give local sponsors a meaningful way to get their brand in front of the community.
- Professionalism - at events and sportives, a matching club jersey signals that you take your riding seriously.
- Retention - members who feel connected to a club are more likely to stay.
Choosing the Right Fabric
The fabric is where performance lives. Most quality custom cycling jerseys use one of two core options - and the right choice depends on how and where your club rides.
Polyester Micromesh (Road & Summer Riding)
Lightweight, breathable, and fast-drying - polyester micromesh is the go-to for road cyclists. It wicks moisture efficiently and dries quickly, making it ideal for warm-weather rides and racing. Our Standard Cycling Jersey uses micromesh fabric and a side mesh panel for extra contoured, aerodynamic fitting.
Heavier Polyester Fabric (Autumn & Winter)
For clubs that ride year-round, a thicker jersey is essential. Slightly heavier at 200–280 GSM, these fabrics trap warmth while still offering stretch and moisture management. Our Elite Cycling Jerseys offer more protection from the wind and cold. We also offer arm warmers and gilets for the ultimate branded cycling layers.
Designing Your Jersey: What to Include
Great cycling jersey design balances identity with practicality. Here's what to consider at the design stage:
Club Colours and Logo
Your primary club colour should dominate the jersey. Sublimation printing - which we'll cover below - allows unlimited colours without any additional cost, so don't hold back. Include your club crest or logo prominently on the chest, and consider a smaller version on the sleeve.
Contrast Panels for Safety
High-visibility panels on the back, shoulders, or sides add a practical safety dimension. Bright yellow, orange, or white panels can significantly improve how visible your group is to motorists - which should factor into any design brief, particularly if your club does a lot of road riding at dawn or dusk.
Sponsor Placement
If your club has sponsors, plan their placement early. The lower back - visible to following riders - is prime real estate on a cycling jersey. The chest and sleeves are also popular positions. Make sure sponsor logos are large enough to be legible but don't compete with the overall design.
Typography and Numbering
Some clubs include individual names or member numbers on their jerseys - particularly useful for events or time trials. Keep typography clean and legible; script fonts rarely work well at small sizes on sportswear.
Sublimation Printing: Why It Matters
Sublimation is the industry standard for custom cycling jerseys, and for good reason. Unlike screen printing or heat transfer, sublimation dye becomes part of the fabric itself - which means:
- No cracking or peeling, even after hundreds of washes
- Unlimited colours with no additional cost per colour
- Sharp detail reproduction - logos, gradients, and complex patterns all print cleanly
- Lightweight result - no additional layer on the fabric
- Colour vibrancy that doesn't fade over time
The one limitation: sublimation works exclusively on polyester fabrics (or high-poly blends), which is why most custom cycling jerseys are made from synthetic materials. If a supplier is offering sublimation on cotton, be cautious.
Minimum Order Quantities and Pricing
Smaller clubs often worry about minimum order quantities (MOQs). The good news is that My Club now offers low minimum order quantities of 5 items for sublimated custom kits, making it viable even for clubs of 10–15 members.

Lead Times: Planning Your Order
Cycling kit orders take longer than most clubs expect. Between approving a design, finalising sizes, production, and delivery, most orders are delivered within 6 weeks. Plan accordingly if you have a specific event or season opener in mind.
Tips for reducing delays:
- Collect all member sizes in a single spreadsheet before approaching a supplier
- Have your club logo available as a vector file (AI, EPS, or SVG) - low-resolution PNGs often cause issues
- Agree on a design internally before contacting the supplier - design revision rounds add days
- Order a sample or single jersey first if you're trying a new supplier
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Even experienced club treasurers and kit officers fall into these traps:
- Not ordering enough: Order a few extras in the most common sizes. Running a second small order is disproportionately expensive.
- Ignoring women's-specific sizing: If your club has female members, check whether the supplier offers a proper women's cut rather than just scaled-down men's sizes. We offer different cuts as standard in our men's and women's sizing.
- Skimping on rear pockets: Three rear pockets are standard on road jerseys for a reason - make sure your design accommodates them rather than treating them as optional.
- Over-complicated designs: What looks great on screen can look busy on a jersey. Keep the main colourway simple and let the logo do the talking.
